Common causes of fever in newborns

Fever is not actually a disease, but just a defense response of the human body to abnormal physical conditions. The body temperature regulation function of newborns is not perfect, heat production and heat dissipation are easy to lose balance, so body temperature is easy to fluctuate, and newborns have poor tolerance to high heat. In addition, newborns have poor resistance, imperfect body function development, and are vulnerable to bacterial viruses. The causes of newborn fever can be divided into the following categories:
1. Infectivity
Neonatal infectious fever is mostly caused by viral infections, including acute infections caused by bacteria, rickettsia, protozoa, spirochetes, molds, etc., to upper respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, sepsis, and various acute infectious diseases, etc. , Are common causes of fever.
2. Non-infectious
Heat production and abnormal heat dissipation: excessive heat production caused by convulsions and status epilepticus; heat dissipation difficulties due to generalized ichthyosis, generalized dermatitis, and anhidrosis; or abnormal heat dissipation system caused by parents wrapping too much clothing.
A large amount of blood loss or water loss: If the baby loses a lot of blood due to trauma, the effective blood circulation can be reduced and the heat dissipation will be hindered, so the body temperature will rise. Rise.
Biological agents or drug reactions: It usually occurs during the treatment of certain diseases, such as allergies after the use of serum, vaccines, foreign proteins or certain drugs (such as sulfa, barbiturates, etc.).
Central regulation disorders: Neonatal neurodevelopment is not complete, and certain functional hypothermia and central body temperature regulation disorders will occur. In summer, the indoor temperature is too high, the newborn sweat glands are relatively underdeveloped, and the heat dissipation is poor, which can easily lead to fever.
Sterile tissue is destroyed or necrotic: such as leukemia, intravascular embolism, burns, fractures, hematomas, absorption of blood in the abdominal or thoracic cavity, etc.
Other reasons: such as dehydration fever. Dehydration fever is caused by insufficient water feeding and the baby is severely dehydrated. The fever will continue for several hours and then gradually disappear. It can also have fever several times a day, but it is rare for people who have a fever for more than dozens of days. In addition, if the newborn has kernicterus, intracranial hemorrhage, etc., it can cause fever.
